How to download and use the free PDF reader

The instructions provided on this page are not intended to replace those provided by the manufacturer of the Acrobat PDF reader. If you require further assistance with the Acrobat Reader, please visit the Adobe Website.

How to download the free Adobe Acrobat PDF reader
(NOTE: You only need to do this one time. Once you have the PDF reader installed on your computer, you can use it to view and print any PDF file.)

Click on "Download the free reader from the Abobe web site", below. This will take you to the Adobe web site where you can download the free reader.
Once at the Adobe site, follow the instructions appearing on the screen and click the "download" button.

Download the free reader from the Abobe web site.

Saving PDF files using Internet Explorer

When a PDF file is displayed in its own Internet Explorer window, Internet Explorer's File > Save As... menu will not correctly save the PDF file to your disk. If you opened the PDF file by clicking on a link to it from a web page, you can save the PDF file to your disk as follows:

Use the Back button in the Internet Explorer toolbar to return to the web page containing the link.

Click on the link to the PDF file using your RIGHT mouse button to display a drop-down menu.

Choose the Save Target As... menu item from the drop-down menu and use the resulting dialog box to save the PDF file to your hard disk.

Using the free PDF reader, go to the subdirectory on your hard disk where you downloaded the PDF file and open the file.

How to use the PDF reader
(Note: This will work the same, whether you are using Windows or a Mac.)

If you get stumped using your Reader, you should click on the "Help" menu.
To open a PDF file, highlight the "File" menu and select "Open". A dialogue box will appear where you need to specify the location of the file you wish to open.
After you specify the file you want, click "OK". This will open the file.
When you click the toolbar button on the far left, the first page will be shown on the full screen.

The second toolbar button from left will display the page on the right-side of the screen and any bookmarks that have been established for the document on the left-side of the screen. The bookmarks are like a Table of Contents. If you see a portion of the solicitation you would like to view, just click on the "bookmark" and that portion of the file will be displayed for you.

The third toolbar button from the left will display the current page on the right-side of the screen and "thumbnails" of the other pages on the left-side of the screen. The thumbnails are small pictures of the actual file pages. You can click on the thumbnail and the page you selected will be displayed. You can also use the thumbnails to move to another portion of the displayed page by holding down the left mouse-button and moving it to the portion of the page you wish to view.
To zoom-in on a particular portion of the page, click the toolbar button that has a magnifying glass with a "+" in it. Then click on the portion of the page you wish to zoom-in. To zoom-out, do the same thing, only click on the magnifying glass with the "-" in it.

If you wish to search the file for particular words or topics, click on the toolbar button that look like binoculars, then type in the word or phrase you wish to search for.
To print the file, highlight the "File" menu and select "Print". You will be asked to specify the printer you want to use and whether you wish to print the entire file, the current page, or specified multiple pages. Make the necessary selections and click on "OK". The document will be sent to your printer.
